The 2023 national Green Ribbon campaign has been officially launched at two different national events in the last week, most recently in Cork yesterday, Tuesday, September 5.
The annual See Change Green Ribbon campaign is coordinated by See Change and runs throughout the month of September and aims to spread awareness about all mental health difficulties to help end mental health stigma and discrimination.
The Green Ribbon theme for 2023 is judgement. Across the month, See Change will explore what mental health judgement is, where it shows up across society, how judgement impacts people with mental health difficulties, and what we call all do to help end the unfair judgement of ourselves and others.
Keep an eye on our social media channels to learn about shame and the negative impacts it can have on people with mental health difficulties.
Through events and social media posts, the month-long Green Ribbon campaign will be encouraging people to become more aware of the language they use every day that may be triggering for people with mental health difficulties. It will also be encouraging people to educate themselves about mental health and mental illnesses.
The Green Ribbon campaign is sponsored by The HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP), which supports the implementation of Connecting for Life, Ireland’s National Strategy to Reduce Suicide.

Each weekly Green Ribbon event will focus on a different theme related to the topic of mental health
judgement. “Understanding the topic of judgement” was the theme for the first week and the second week, which is ongoing and concludes with World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, is about “Where judgement shows up in society”.
