November next will see the hosting of Understanding Self-Harm training workshops in both Galway and Castlebar.

Understanding Self-Harm Training is a 1-day programme which aims to develop Participants’ knowledge and understanding of self-harm and the reasons underlying such behaviour.

The program also helps participants consider the needs of people who self-harm.

By completing Understanding Self-Harm Training Participants will: Be informed of definitions of self-harm and consider its relationship with suicide; understand the prevalence of self-harm across different age groups and genders; be familiar with the functions, motivations and meanings underlying self- harm; demonstrate improved sensitivity and awareness of the needs of people who self-harm and be aware of possible interventions and helpful responses in responding to people who self-harm

This workshop is suitable for nurses, social workers, Gardai counselors, community volunteers, teachers, youth workers, residential workers, child care staff, etc.

The programme involves an interactive style, including PowerPoint presentation, DVD clips, case study examples and small group discussions.

The workshop will be held in Galway at Croí, Moyala Lane, Newcastle, Galway, Co. Galway, H91FF68 on Wednesday, 2 November ’22 from  9am – 4:30pm and in Castlebar at The Ellison, Lannagh Road, Garryduff, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, F23 V279 on Friday, November 25 next from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Training is free of charge. You must be over 18 to attend.
