HSE providing free support to people wanting to quit smoking

By 9th June 2022No Comments

Quit Smoking West HSE Stop Smoking Advisors provide free one-to-one support to people who want to quit smoking or vaping.

These one-to-one sessions can take place face-to-face, via phone consultation or video link.

They usually last six weeks followed by a check in with the person after 3 months and at the end of the year.

Advice on stop smoking medications (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) is also given.

Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) gives you nicotine – in the form of gum, patches, sprays, inhalers, or lozenges – but not the other harmful chemicals in tobacco.

NRT can help relieve some of the physical withdrawal symptoms experienced when you give up smoking so that you can focus on the psychological (emotional) aspects of quitting.

By availing of the free behavioural support from a HSE Stop Smoking Advisor and using the Nicotine Replacement Therapy, smokers are four times more likely to quit.

If someone wants to avail of this service, they can contact 091-737262, email quitsmoking.west@hse.ie or register your details here –https://bit.ly/3MRzJ34 and a Stop Smoking Advisor will contact you.
