FREE webinar will discuss youth participation and its impact in Ireland

The Mayo Tulsa Youth Advisory Committee will host a panel discussion on youth participation in Ireland today and the impact differing perceptions can have on Thursday, September 30 next.

This event will take the form of a youth-led participation webinar that will run from 11.30am to 1pm that day.

The Mayo Tulsa Youth Advisory Committee is a group of young people who are facilitated in a joint project by Foroige and Tusla, The Child and Family Agency.

The group works on projects identified by themselves and requests from agencies with the aim of providing a youth perspective on different issues and promoting the day-to-day need for youth participation.

A fantastic range of expert speakers has been lined up to address the upcoming webinar including Professor Laura Lundy – Queens University Belfast and creator of the Lundy Model of Participation, A rights-based model; Kalem Garrett – former member of the Mayo Tusla Youth Advisory Committee; Dr. Niall Muldoon – Irish Ombudsman for Children; Mohammed – Mayo Comhairle na nOg member, Mayo Tusla Youth Advisory Committee member & ISSU Regional Liaison and Support Officer; Bernard Gloster – CEO Tusla – Child and Family Agency and Emer Neville – President of Irish Second-Level Students’ Union

The members of the committee will also host short workshops with professionals working with young people and the attendees to examine youth participation practices on the ground with young people, the professionals include: a social worker, principal of a secondary school, Garda JLO and a youth worker.

This event is being led by the members of the group with support from their adult facilitator.
