Free webinar explores suicide, its signs and available supports

The My Mind Centre for Wellbeing, in collaboration with Pieta, will host a free webinar this Thursday, June 17 called “Know Suicide, Know the Signs”.

This webinar has been designed to give some space to the topic of suicide to explore the issues around it and provide some practical pointers on learning the signs and being able to provide support to someone who is potentially struggling with suicidal thoughts.

The webinar will also debunk some of the myths that exist and present the facts around suicide.

Pieta’s Alan Farrell will present a clear and simple model (APR – Ask, Persuade, Refer) that anyone can use to initially intervene to support a person struggling with suicidal ideation and to point them towards professional support.

It is well known now that the Covid-19 pandemic has created a great deal of additional anxiety and stress for most of us.

Dealing with Covid has been particularly challenging for people who have already been dealing with poor mental health, but has also affected those who have usually been able to maintain reasonably good mental health.

There have been reported increases in depression, loneliness, stress, and addiction as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

But there is a lot of support available, and much of it is free.

My Mind Centre for Mental Wellbeing is currently providing free online counselling services to people who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic whether it’s through bereavement, job loss, increased anxiety, depression, or addiction.

Support is provided by a team of qualified mental health professionals and all sessions are held in strict confidence through MyMind’s own online platform.

Pieta first opened its doors in Lucan, County Dublin in 2006. Since then the charity has seen and helped over 58,000 people in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm.

Pieta now operates 15 centres and five outreach services across Ireland and employs over 200 therapists and administration staff.

The demand for its service is increasing.

Pieta provides free counselling to those with suicidal ideation, those engaging in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide.

Staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service.

Please join Pieta and My Mind Centre this Thursday, June 17 at 11am for the free “Know Suicide. Know the Signs” webinar.
