First Fortnight Mental Health Art & Culture Festival 2021
Challenging mental health stigma and creating a space where we can each talk about our mental health challenges has never been more important. First Fortnight Mental Health Art & Culture Festival returns for its tenth year in January 2021. Commencing on January 2nd, more than 70 events will take place throughout the month marking 10 years of challenging mental health stigma and it aims to kick start a brighter 2021 for all of us.
Our 2021 events will primarily be online. For those attending the festival, registration is necessary for all our events. If you are attending an online event, after you are registered you will be issued with an access link in advance of show day. All details can be located on our WEBSITE and within the programme, which is also embedded on our site.
To celebrate the festival’s 10th anniversary First Fortnight and Presentation Arts Centre, Enniscorthy will be hosting a unique retrospective exhibition Coalesce, featuring the work of internationally renowned artists; Shane Keeling, Solus, ADW, Morgan, Emma Sheridan, Glenn Gibson, Nicola Anthony, Maser, Padraig Nolan, Agnieszka Bloch and Sinead McDonald. The eleven invited artists have previously contributed to the First Fortnight Festival on separate occasions and are now gathered together under one roof. This exhibition will be available for online viewing from Saturday January 9th through Sunday February 28th, 2021.
The Art in Mind Gallery is Galway’s New Creative Hub for Artists. Art in Mind is an artist led non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting wellbeing and mental health through creative practice. The Art in Mind Gallery will host a multidisciplinary exhibition while founder Glenn Gibson will host a series of online wire sculpting workshops, with workshops packs posted to participants. Social media expert, Jane Hanberry, will host a marketing masterclass for Artists, targeted at creative practitioners looking to enhance their physical and digital promotions. Exhibition Saturday January 2nd – Wednesday January 17th (10am – 5pm).
Participating in our 2021 festival’s workshops will be a novel experience with materials posted out to participants and online classes. Workshops include Origami Meditations, reclaiming the joy of touch and sensation with a playful, colourful, carefree learning experience, where you will learn the basics of hand weaving in An Introduction to Hand Weaving. Young writers can join Fighting Words for Who Am I? Who Are We? Poetry with Fighting Words. Seamus Heaney fans can enjoy a Mindful Heaney Talk and Workshop around his works.
